Glass City History of Toledo Mirror and Glass

history1The history of Toledo Mirror and Glass is the story of our company becoming the premier construction glass and glass glazing contractor in Northwest Ohio. Every day we re-commit ourselves to the high standards on which our founders built our reputation so we can provide you, our customers, with all the commercial glass and glazing products and services in the professional and courteous manner that you deserve. We want to exceed your expectations as we have for the generations of customers who preceded you.

The history of Toledo Mirror and Glass began at its inception in 1918 and evolved into a partnership in 1923. Toledo Mirror and Glass has always been located at the corner of Avondale and 11th Streets in downtown Toledo. Prior to 1950 the company was a wholesale distributor of glass; the manufacturer and “silverer,” the process by which plate glass becomes a mirror; an art glass designer; and a residential and commercial glass glazing contractor. Mr. history2Edward Walters and Mr. Eugene Holley owned and operated the company.
In 1947 the company was faced with a devastating fire which destroyed the entire building. In 1948 the facility was rebuilt and in subsequent years expanded. Mr. Walters had the controlling interest and ownership of the company until his death in 1987. After Mr. Walters’ death the control and ownership reverted to his trust. During the timeframe where the trust was managing the business, a number of operational changes were implemented. The company discontinued the wholesale distribution of glass products including art glass and is no longer silvering mirror stock. Then, in February of 2006, Toledo Glass LLC purchased the assets of Toledo Mirror and Glass. The company has been under the same ownership since that time.

history3Today, Toledo Mirror and Glass has 36,000 square feet of design, fabricating and storage capacity along with 3,000 square feet of office space. We have expanded our service and maintenance operations and have added 24-Hour Commercial Board Up Service and Automated Entrance Technologies to complement our complete line of commercial glass services. We have also added the “specialty & residential” division in order to more fully serve the Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan markets.

We are proud of the history of Toledo Mirror and Glass and we want to say thank you to all our customers, past, present and future. We promise to continue to be your premier construction glazing contractor and we look forward to serving all your glass needs for years to come!
